Dinara Safina (Russia):
Vorn April 27, 1986, is a Russian professional tennis player. As of April 27, 2009, she is ranked World No. 1 by the Women's Tennis Association. She has been the runner-up in two Grand Slam singles tournaments and won the women's doubles title at the 2007 US Open with Nathalie Dechy. She also won the Olympic silver medal in women's singles at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. She is the younger sister of former World No. 1 men's player Marat Safin.
Competing as the top seed at the 2009 French Open, Safina advanced to the quarterfinals dropping just five games, defeating Anne Keothavong 6-0, 6-0, Vitalia Diatchenko, 27th seeded Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, and Aravane Rezai. Safina was blown away by Victoria Azarenka in the first set of the quarterfinals, but ultimately prevailed 1-6, 6-4, 6-2. She will face Dominika Cibulkova in the semifinals.
Dominika Cibulkova (Slovakia):
Born May 6, 1989 in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia, now Slovakia. Is a Slovak professional tennis player.She is also a former World Junior No. 3, achieving that ranking in May 2005. Her current and career-high ranking of World No. 16 was achieved on March 9, 2009.
At the French Open, Cibulkova is seeded 20th. She defeated Alona Bondarenko in the first round and dominated Kirsten Flipkens in the second round 6-1 6-0. She then defeated Gisela Dulko to advance to the 4th round where she defeated Agnes Szavay to reach her first Grand Slam Quarterfinal. In the quarterfinals, she defeated Maria Sharapova in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-2. She will face Dinara Safina in her first Grand Slam semifinal.
